This day’s ride was originally listed as a ‘mystery’ and so it turned out – It changed firstly to ‘Devoran’ but then as this was Mothering Sunday everywhere was fully booked when trying to book a table at short notice. So as a last resort the Victoria at Victoria was rung and they agreed to ‘squeeze us in’ (obviously TCC are good customers!)
So at 10am there were 4 brace souls waiting at Lemon Quay for what was going to be a fairly windy ride. We set off up Tregolls Road into a fierce head-wind and were met at Tresillian by Paul and Ros, then at Truck Fork by Barry. So along we trundled up the valley, it was reasonably day, but quite dull and quite hard work – we even had turn the pedals down out of Indian Queen’s which is absolutely not on. Anyway we made fairly good time so went via the scenic route through Blackacre and Belowda Village still no ‘cats in the road’) and arrived at our Watering Hole in time for an excellent lunch and a break.
Then we flew down under the Iron Bridge through the old A30 back through Fraddon, waving at the Alpacas (which always look so bemused as we ride by) – what a difference a tail-wind makes.
We said our farewells along the way – not too onerous a ride and barely a complaint!!
Weather – Dry but dull and an easterly gale
Riders – John Gilbert, John Flowers, Jonathan Angilley (who left at Penhale Round for a family get together), Hugh Bryson, Paul & Ros Delderfield, Barry Butt and Ride Leader: Christine Rogers
Distance – 30 or 40 miles depending on individual start/finishes.
