Eight riders left the Drummer Boy at the usual time of approximately 10.10 and rode up Mitchell Hill to take a backwards route to Goonhavern. Peter had to leave us here as he had to be back home early.
The rest of us rode on down into Tresillian and along the Ladock Valley to Fraddon where we turned off towards White Cross where Ian and Bridget left (as this was precisely the way had come into Truro).
The remainder cycled on and during this part of the ride it became apparent that the ride leader had made a huge error of judgement in the amount of mileage that was still to be ridden. However it being a lovely sunny day with not much wind we all battled on, up hill and down dale to St Newlyn East, where the ride leader contacted the café to inform them of our late arrival and asking them to notify Mike Rogers who was riding out to meet us for 12 o’clock
We eventually arrived at Goonhavern almost an hour late (to find Mike had given up on us), but we managed to find a table in the shade to consume our lunch. Afterwards it being such a nice day it was ageeed to cycle into Perranporth for an icecream to cheer us on our way.
Following which we rode through Perrancombe taking the usual route back. Bob left us at the Silverwell turning and the remainder cycled through the lovely lanes back to Shortlanesend where Jude and John continued on their way back to Tresillian.
Weather Perfect – sunny but not too hot and just a gentle zephyr.
Riders Peter Hargreaves, Ian Cook, Bridget Sweeney, Bob Jewell, Jude Lawrence, John Flowers and John Gilbert and ride leader – Christine Rogers
Distance John Gilbert and Christine Rogers 42 miles
Jude Lawrence and John Flowers 51 miles
Bob Jewell 63 miles
At this point the ride leader wishes to apologise unreservedly for being such an idiot and is obviously unable to read maps and measure distances (despite the fact that she worked in a Map Shop for 3 years!). Particular apologies to Bob, Bridget and Ian.
