Originally promoted by Julian as a ‘Christmas lunch’ ride to Bodmin, predictions of bad weather for the day prevailed all week, so the advertised destination was changed to Wheal Martyn. But as four of us assembled on lemon Quay, Julian said we could go to Heligan instead, and that’s what we ended up doing. Four increased to five after picking up Andy from Tresillian. A couple of wiggles via Ladock, Grampound Road and Caerhays, and we soon found ourselves having coffee in the warm, while the only shower of the day pattered on the roof. An easy route back, partly on the main road, ensured that Andy & Chris could get back for lunch with families. A slight drizzle over the last few miles wasn’t enough to stop and put on raincapes, but the lanes were so filthy I ended up totally splattered in mud from (other riders’) wheels.
Participants: Jeremy, Julian (leader), Andy, Chris R (great to see you back, Chris) and me (Chris F). 39 miles, average speed 14mph exactly.
