Our St Valentine’s Day ride managed to conjure up some uncharacteristically dry weather for
our Easy Ride to Piece. Christine arrived to see us off before returning home to witness
England showing the Italians how it’s done on the rugby pitch which left eight of us heading
off from the Piazza around 10 o’clock, to tackle a lung bursting Harris Hill and across the mainin
road to Penweathers.
Arriving at Penweathers, we had our first and thankfully only puncture which gave us all a
breather until Roz’s bike was back in service. Moving on to Helston Water, Bissoe and
Cusgarne, along through Trehaddle , up the hill and down to Gwennap. Up the hill again at
Gwennap and across the main road at Burncoose Up Badger Hill and left fork to Trethellan
Water. At Penhalvean we took a direct route to Four Lanes. All in all a steady climb to the
highest point of the county before crossing over the road and on for about a mile to arrive at
The Countryman in Piece for a well earned lunch. The Landlord, forewarned of our arrival,
proved very accommodating and we were spoilt for choice with the lunchtime menu. Niq was
especially pleased to receive a generous helping of his signature dish of cheesy chips and a
giant mug of coffee!
After lunch, we made our way out to the car park to find that whilst indoors, we had had a
shower of rain, the only one on the ride! Niq then made his way to Godrevy, Ian worked out
his best way home to St Mawgan and the rest of us made our way towards Lanner and
Carharrack where we split to make our respective ways home.
