Three Go to Heligan -As Opposed to Five
Yours truly, a very reluctant ride leader arrived at Wetherspoons in a howling gale and drizzle in the hope that there would be a distinct lack of support. Jane duly arrived and pointed out that Malcolm was hiding in the Lemon Quay marquee and as per usual Niq eventually arrived.
We set off up Tregolls Road and onto Tresillian and up the Ladock Valley and a sharp right turn just before Falmouth Arms and climbed up to the Grampound cross roads and on into the Combe Valley. Climbing up to Hewas Water we were stopped as two horses approached, the first being somewhat unsettled; it transpired that the light on the front bar of Malcom’s bike had an adverse effect on the animal.
We crossed the A390 onto Rescoria eventually arriving at Heligan. It transpires that bike racks have changed and they now comprise a number of logs with grooves for a front wheel as Malcom pointed out in the wind the bikes would be blown over. After lunch I went to the Reception Office to discuss the new racks and received a positive response and a complaint form.
Back on the road to St. Ewe and up Polmassick Hill and onto the B3287 to Tregoney and we made our way back into Truro via Tresillian and Pencalenick School. The round trip was a total of 49.39Km.
The Three were Niq Carter-Rowe, Malcom Leigh and Paul Charlesworth (Ride Leader)
