This was a make-it-up-as-you-go ride. The plan was to go to Heligan, but Heligan is the palace of the Snow Queen, and she was likely to emerge today, so we headed in the opposite direction; five solos and a tandem, under a clear sky. Cold as charity, though. Your reporter’s nose, tiddley-pom, froze while we […]
Dry with rain threatening, four riders left the Piazza about 10.15 for a ride to the Countryman at Piece. Rod Tinson, Mike Eastwood, Niq Carter-Rowe and Hugh Bryson (ride leader) Rod led us out to the new cycleway at Coosebean, from there on to Threemilestone on the cyclepath and our usual route through Greenbottom and Dangerous Crossing to Quay Downs Road. Left towards Mt Hawke, left again to Smokey Joes and across the A30 to United Downs. From there, instead of taking the intended route from Carharrack to Carnkie, Niq led us on to Burncoose and Badger Hill to avoid arriving too early. Up Badger Hill and on to Four Lanes, across the main road and down to arrive at Piece (still in the dry!) for about 12.20, just over 20 miles and a welcome break for lunch. Still dry, but rain threatening, we made our way back towards Lanner , on to Carharrack where we split to make our own respective ways home. Mike, Rod & Niq to Truro via Bissoe, Penweathers where Mike carried on to Grampound Road and Hugh to Scorrier and home to St Agnes. About 30 miles from Truro and back. Got rained on going home, but very enjoyable ride, thanks chaps!
A somewhat uninspiring weather forecast meant a dearth of riders for the Intermediate ride to St Mawes and a lack of the usual suspects for the leisure ride. The weather proved better than expected and five riders , Niq C-R, Penny Holt, Chris Fearnley, Dave Bennett and Hugh Bryson (leader) left the Piazza to head […]
We left the Piazza at approximately 10.10 and proceeded along Lemon St, Charles St and thus up Station Rd (Hill) and thence along Treyew Rd through 3milestone towards Chacewater where we turned off at ‘Dangerous Crossing’ and into Key Down Rd, a sharp rainstorm forcing us to don our rain jackets by the Weak Bridge […]
John rolled into the Piazza, panting slightly and claiming he’d beaten Jude on her new electric bike. Jude, as she cruised majestically into view, a vision of unflustered dignity on a machine so defiantly red it will undoubtedly launch a new range of cosmetics, seemed to imply that he’d started half-an-hour ahead of her. I […]
Following a brief photoshoot on the Piazza, courtesy of club member Dave Rickett, (wife Melinda was with the Intermediate group) a group of 9 began a leisurely (but purposeful!) ride through Truro, up Kenwyn and on to Idless to be met once again by our intrepid photographer Dave who positioned himself along the route for […]
This took the form of an expedition to verify the myth that it’s always raining at Four Lanes. If the famous yomp across the Falklands by the Marines in 1982 had been done on bicycles, it would have felt like our so-called leisure ride. Already cloudy and damp as we left Truro by the […]
