Bolingey Intermediate 9th Oct 2016

Due to the paucity of available routes out of Truro, the ride departed via the cobbles along Pydar Street up Kenwyn Road, with a swift, but not unexpected right turn down and along into the Idless Valley. For a change the going was dry and relatively mud free, except in the obligatory assault course sections, […]

Intermediate-ish ride to Tehidy Woods 31/07/2016

Before it set out, the ride changed its mind, this was due to the easy ride which it had been scheduled to meet up with, moving its location to Tehidy Woods, which in turn was due to the unkind removal of the bridge over the railway at Greenbottom, which in turn meant that there […]

Niq, Huw, DaveB, Dave F, Rod, Hugo, John G, Paul and Ros D, Christine, Jonathan, Carl, Ian and Peter We met for once in glorious sunshine. Too big a group it seemed to stay together so Niq and Huw formed a breakaway with their own agenda but the same destination. We left Truro using Christine’s […]

Shakespeare Anniversary Ride, Sunday April 24, 2016

Shakespeare Anniversary Ride, Sunday April 24, 2016 Full many a glorious morning I have seen, When rouleurs gather by the Wetherstones pub And chat and reminisce on what has been Till they are called to leave; ay there’s the rub. So it was on April’s four-and-twentieth day When in a loose and straggling peloton The […]

Easy Ride to Piece 14 02 16

Our St Valentine’s Day ride managed to conjure up some uncharacteristically dry weather for  our Easy Ride to Piece. Christine arrived to see us off before returning home to witness  England showing the Italians how it’s done on the rugby pitch which left  eight of us heading  off from the Piazza around 10 o’clock, to tackle a lung bursting Harris Hill  and across the mainin  road to Penweathers.   Arriving at Penweathers, we had our first and thankfully only puncture which gave us all a  breather until Roz’s bike was back in service. Moving on to Helston Water, Bissoe and  Cusgarne, along through Trehaddle , up the hill and down to Gwennap. Up  the hill again at  Gwennap and across the main road at Burncoose Up Badger Hill and left fork to Trethellan  Water. At Penhalvean we took a direct route to Four Lanes. All in all a steady climb to the  highest point of the county before crossing over the road and on for about a mile to arrive at  The Countryman in Piece for a well earned lunch. The Landlord, forewarned of our arrival,  proved very accommodating and we were spoilt for choice with the lunchtime menu.  Niq was  especially pleased to receive a generous helping of his signature dish of cheesy chips and a  giant mug of coffee!  After  lunch, we made our way out to the car park to find that whilst indoors, we had had a  shower of rain, the only one on the ride!  Niq then made his way  to Godrevy, Ian worked out  his best way home to St  Mawgan and the rest of us made our way towards Lanner and  Carharrack where we split to make our respective ways home.  Participants: Hugh Bryson (RL) Paul & Roz Delderfield, Ian Cook, John Flowers,  Jude  Lawrence, Peter Hargreaves, Niq Carter-Rowe

Easy Ride to Penelewey 31st January

I was surprised to see anybody at all at the meeting point but two new riders and one of them a Junior? A long time since that happened! We headed into the wind and things kept staying that way. Up Pydar street for the Idless turning to follow NCN32 to Rod’s Corner. This gave us […]

Easy Ride to St Mawes -17 Jan 2016

We set out from Lemon Quay, shedding riders left, right and centre. A splinter group of Peter Hargreaves, Richard Moore, Christine Rogers and Ian Clark headed west, like dissident members of the Parliamentary Labour Party, and were not seen again that day. Was it something I said? My views on Trident? On Syria? My voting […]

Sunday ride to Bolingey 6th December

The scene could have been borrowed from a Scandi-Drama as a surprising number of riders gathered in the gloom and rain. The BBC weather application had promised an extended dry spell and we had all fallen for it. Leaving Truro via St Georges Road and Goosebean Greenway we crossed the A390 and swept down to […]

Easy ride to Hell’s Mouth 1st November

Sunday 1st November, “easy” to Hells Mouth  (sort of!) As usual there was some hiatus at the start of the ride, this was due to the fact that, whilst it was known that the Hell’s Mouth Cafe was due to shut for the season on this day, it was belatedly remembered that last time the […]

Easy Ride 4th October, The Victory, Towan Cross

Having carefully booked a high noon slot for a guessed at 8 riders, I was mildly put out when I discovered that the Victory, whose wonderful food had been enjoyed by some of the attendees at a Thursday Social walk, do not in fact do their normal menu on a Sunday, but instead limit their […]
